first of all , congratulations on you finish the military training successfully . fantastic performances of military training achievement were full of our passion and sweat. here i would like to thank our dear teachers , trainers , leaders. thank you for your selfless help ,thank you for your ardent expectations , what’s more is the care like relatives.

within five days of military training. although it is tired but worth , instructors also paid a lot for us . their behavior tell us what is brave. we are all moved and amazed by them. this military training makes our discipline be serious and also inspires us to fight. i also gradually understand that we must be a maple leaver who observe discipline and work hard. only in this way can we be better to face the coming high school life and this is the meaning of military training.

to all the teachers, both old and new students i say good morning.

it is my honour to stand before you and deliver this speech of welcoming remarks to our newly enrowed students of the 2022 chongqing university of posts and telecommunications academic year.

i welcome you all to cqupt and chongqing at large. am sure you will all at some point get lost or confused more than once as it is inevitable being in a new environment. but, am equally sure we will all enjoy this new beginning together.

many of you are wondering how life will be like in a world and living environment so different from high school, former college, or that of your family home.

well to be honest my first months here 3 years ago, i wondered why i was here and even after i wondered why everyone else was here……… learning in a foreign language everything seemed not to make any sense. i shared these thoughts with a senior student who i met here and all he had to say was that i would either way fail my entire courses in the first year. these words did not heal my wounded thoughts but left me with unsettled thoughts of how i was going to make it through. am glad to stand here today and testify that i have not once failed a course since my sophomore year. this did not however happen by luck but through hard work, discipline and persistence.

everyone here belongs and each and every one of you newly enrolled students will find your place. there will be many things, many traditions that you will come to know. but you will come to understand what i believe is most important about this place—that it is the centre of new and original thought and ideas. and it is ideas that are ultimately most important in this world.

cqupt provides an environment good to both learn and grow as an individual and as a part of a community. do not wait to be told or pushed to join an extracurricular activity e.g sports meetings, school organised competitions etc, all these activities are organised for us students and it is up to us to organise ourselves and enjoy these activities together. as the saying goes all work not play makes jack a dull boy.

one question you should keep asking yourself whilst here is, how do i make the most of my time here. it is ok keep refining your answer as time goes by putting into mind that you are only here for some time and not forever, and what you want to make is the very best and the best of memories out it.

接下來我想分享自己在英國留學(xué)的一段經(jīng)歷。當初因雅思只考了5分，我無法申請到研究生，只得被迫延長一年的語言學(xué)習(xí)，由此引發(fā)的是生活上的窘迫和無休止的打工。白天，餐廳服務(wù)員、清潔工、保姆等多個工作角色令我筋疲力盡，夜晚還要背單詞。有段時間，我感到非常孤獨和艱難。

now i want to share with you some of my stories studying in the united kingdom. at that time, my english was not good enough to get a pretty ielts score. i only got 5, unable to be enrolled in a graduate school, and had to study the language for one extra year. because of that extra year, i ran out of money and had to take on part-time jobs. incessant part-time jobs. by day, i had to pick up several part-time roles, waitress, cleaner, baby-sitter and so on, which was very exhausting. by night, i had to study the language and try my best to memorize new words. there was a time when i felt very lonely and thought that life was difficult.

為了盡快適應(yīng)，從早上5點起床晨跑，到晚上11點結(jié)束最后一份工作，我高度自律，重新規(guī)劃自己的時間，身心狀況漸漸好轉(zhuǎn)。

to better adapt myself to the new conditions, every day i got up at five o’clock for a morning jog to keep fit and closed my last part-time job around 11 o’clock at night. i became highly self-disciplined and rescheduled my work and study. gradually, i regained my positive attitude and became healthier.

后來，回顧留學(xué)生涯，我懂得了生活的意義就是，積極行動，從當下開始。也正是這段艱難的歲月，讓回國后已是34歲的我，在上海面臨失業(yè)、生活拮據(jù)等種種挑戰(zhàn)，都能積極應(yīng)對、從容不迫。

looking back on that period of time, i’ve learned that whatever life puts you through, you can always choose joy and meaning by taking positive actions and starting from the present. later in life, i have inevitably encountered various difficulties and challenges, like unemployment and short of money at 34 years old when i came back to shanghai from abroad, and so on and so forth. it is because of that difficult time in the uk that i can actively handle these later challenges in my life in a composed way.

此刻在這里分享我人生中遇到的困苦，并不希望大家過多關(guān)注苦難本身，而是想要你們懂得，希望和力量是我們心中永遠無法熄滅的燈。我希望你們生命中珍貴的每一天都快樂而充實，我希望你們感謝每一次呼吸，感激生命本身存在的意義。

i’m sharing this with you not in the hopes that you can know the various inevitable difficulties ahead of you, but in the hopes that you can understand hope and strength are the light within us that can never be extinguished. i hope that you’ll live each day happily and fully. i hope that you are grateful for each breath you take and that you are grateful for life itself.

這一年，我們迫不及待地想看到你們充滿光明的未來，我和所有人都深深地為你們驕傲。

this year, we can’t wait to see how you all turn out. and all of us are very proud of what you have achieved.

ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon.

i'm xu ruipeng, from jinan foreign language school international centre.

like my fellow recipients, i feel greatly honoured to receive the outstanding cambridge learner award. i regard this as not only a milestone in my high school years, but also a confirmation of my abilities and past efforts. indeed, i believe that all students have tried their best in these examinations. so, what exactly makes us stand out? my answer is, communication.

so, what is communication then? according to my personal experiences, the term communication may be divided into three major sub-divisions, which are expression, discussion and evaluation. even though these abilities will not only provide you with efficiency in daily studies and important examinations but also be beneficial to you in terms of social communication, i didn't recognise the significance of these until i studied the a-level information technology course.

i have a variety of interests. however, before i entered high school, i liked to describe myself as a 'sole worker' due to the fact that all of my interests such as playing the flute or playing chess would only require me to work independently and try to be an expert in these fields, rather than making use of the benefits of communication.

later on, during my studies, the need for high-quality expression lay before me when i began to show interest in reading and writing poetry. i was amazed by the beauty of language and fascinated by foreign literature. fortunately, at the same time, i had the opportunity to be a member of jinan foreign language school international centre, studying cambridge international a-level courses and trying to maintain these interests. but only then did i find it challenging since a-levels require a range of abilities such as comprehending and evaluating multiple case studies, expressing coherent arguments, managing time effectively, as well as being enthusiastic for the courses you selected. by the end of my first year in the centre, i had developed a thorough passion for data analysis. hence, my desire to study information technology was enhanced.

frankly, there were times when i struggled in studying this subject as it contains the most up-to-date knowledge in relation to a wide range of subjects such as economics and sociology. it was obvious that one would find it impossible to acquire all the knowledge they needed to learn without group work and discussions. hence our teacher divided topics into small tasks and assigned them to each student individually. later on, students would be required to give presentations and discussions regarding their research based on the assigned tasks. the rest of the class would be asked to provide valuable evaluation in the form of feedback, which would be helpful for our communication skills as well as critical thinking. in this way, all students including me would benefit from group work and discussions. therefore, my personal effort would not burst into bloom without communicating with other brilliant people in and outside of my class.

now, i would like to give my sincerest thanks to the cambridge assessment international education for organising such a wonderful event, giving me the opportunity to receive this award and deliver a speech today. i would also like to thank all the teachers and people who gave me guidance and encouragement during my studies. i also want to share this happiness with my parents for their invaluable support throughout my high school life.

many roads lead to success, communication is just one of the shortcuts that i choose. at the end of my speech, i want to give my sincerest wishes to all of us: we shall meet again in our final destination of success!

i still remember the happiest and most exciting moment when my son received the letter of admission four years ago, not only because my son would study here, one of the most famous universities in shanghai, but also because i had studied international mba program here too. suibe is also my alma mater.

as one of the parents concerning the development of the university, we are really glad that the university and iems program are constantly converging resources of goodquality. with the exploration and innovation in such aspects as teaching staff,curriculum settings and cultivating mode, the university has provided favorable studying conditions and growth environment where the children have spent four years there studying happily and diligently. specialized courses are taught in english by both german and chinese teachers, which have equipped the students with international horizons.

on sept. 1st, 2022, the bright sunshine on that day is still in mind,clear and deep. that special day may be the last time for many of my classmates to become freshmen in their whole lifetime. from all around china, each of us came to the university that we have made efforts to enter for over 10 years, with everyone’s own yearn for the past and longing for the future. from theunfamiliarity of the first met, the unity of military training, to thefriendliness of class activities, we, as freshmen, became closer and closer toeach other under the catalysis of time, even without our notice. witnessed our‘shanghai institute of foreign trade’ being renamed ‘shanghai university ofinternational business and economics’， we entered the second year here with lessnaivety, and started to seek the proper way out for the future. in the meantime, facing the heavier and heavier double pressure from academic work andsociety, our personal qualities and abilities were improving imperceptibly. in the third year, although we were busier and busier, there was determinationinstead of confusion in our eyes. moving forward on the way of chasing dreams,we inevitably tasted the bitterness and happiness of life. whatever setbacks wemet, we tried to struggle and face them positively. in sept. 2022, with the orientation of the newest freshmen, we finally became the senior here oncampus. i always feel that it is the fastest year that i have ever experienced.it seems that the first second all of us were still fighting for dream schoolsor jobs, the next second we are here almost ready to step out of the campus,waving hands to say goodbye. the once imagined long but colorful universitylife has almost changed into memory at this very moment.

如今行走在校園里，或許你會想再去吃一頓食堂的小炒，或許你會想起那些年還枝繁葉茂的六百萬，又或許你會沿著那熟悉的晨跑線路再走上一遭。但我能確定的是，在座同學(xué)不會忘記我們永遠的教學(xué)樓d408,不會忘記外教課上自己做的一次比一次好的演講，當然也不會忘記圖書館里認真寫畢業(yè)論文的自己和答辯侯場時的緊張。因為這些是專屬于我們2022級iemser的共同回憶。

today,when walking on campus, maybe you want to have a meal in school canteen again,perhaps you can still remember the flourishing look of the trees in front of the information building, or it is probable that you want to run for the last time along the routine of morning jogging. but, what i can confirm is that all of our graduates here can never forget our fixed classroom sd408, can never forget the so many presentations we have done on our german professors’ classes and the better and better performance of ourselves, and, of course, can never forget the time we spent writing bachelor thesis in the library as well as the memorable feeling of extremely nervous when waiting for the oral defense. because we are all named iemser 2022, and all of these are our exclusive memories.

從接觸會展這個專業(yè)開始，就好像被打開了一扇門，里面有一個五彩繽紛的世界。在經(jīng)驗豐富的中德雙方專業(yè)老師的引領(lǐng)下，我們開始探索，開始遨游，甚至開始實踐。還記得我們在外教課上開始嘗試著運用肢體語言的技巧，作為實踐課去新國際博覽中心給展會挑刺，去領(lǐng)略世博展覽中心作為一個場館的現(xiàn)代與專業(yè)。甚至我們當中的一些人，在老師的指導(dǎo)下策劃組織過校園美妝展和我們盛大的畢業(yè)晚會，發(fā)揮專業(yè)所長來讓我們的大學(xué)生活更加出彩。同時，作為一名iemser,除了專業(yè)外，另一個不得不提的就是我們會展與旅游學(xué)院了。我相信，作為會旅學(xué)院的一份子，大家一定都感受過學(xué)院大家庭的溫暖，無論是來自院領(lǐng)導(dǎo)與輔導(dǎo)員的關(guān)心，學(xué)長學(xué)姐的指導(dǎo)，還是院學(xué)生會的幫助。

from the very start that we got in touch of this event major, it just like a door toan amazing world was opened, and in this world, it has countless possibilities.under the guidance of our experienced professional teachers from both china and germany, we started to explore, to roam and even to put the knowledge into practice.still remember we tried to use body language naturally while communicating on our german professors’ classes, we tried to pick holes on the exhibition heldin sniec, and we learnt the modernity and professionalism of expo center as avenue from our own experience. furthermore, some of us got the chance to get involved in organizing and holding the campus beauty show or our graduation gala dinner under the instruction of our teachers. it allows us to take the advantage of our professional ideas to enrich our college life. at the sametime, as an iemser, besides the major, our event and tourism faculty also mustbe mentioned here. i believe that, as a student in our faculty, each of our graduates should have experienced the warm of this big family, whatever it’s the caring from the leaders or our instructor, the guidance from elder schoolmates,or the help from the faculty’s student union.

(中文譯文) 大家下午好，今天非常高興能和這么多新鮮的面孔相聚于此。我叫王xx，大四1101班的學(xué)生，今天感到萬分榮幸能在這和大家分享自己的經(jīng)歷并且在你們大學(xué)生活剛開始的時候給你們一些建議。 其實我十分好奇你們在這樣一個時間點對于一場精彩大學(xué)生活的定義。有人曾經(jīng)抱怨說大學(xué)四年完全是浪費時間和金錢, 對此，你們是這樣認為的嗎?答案是否定的。我想告訴大家的是，只要你們好好經(jīng)營自己的大學(xué)生活，它將成為你們?nèi)松械膶氋F財富。 接下來我想和大家簡單分享一下我大學(xué)的經(jīng)歷。我始終記得我大一的這個時候一位學(xué)姐在這個臺上給我們分享經(jīng)驗的場景。我當時被她的英語口語深深震撼了，因而決定努力奮斗，爭取達到像她一樣的水平。所以，我在大學(xué)期間所做的其實就是充分利用大學(xué)的各種資源發(fā)展自己的潛力，提升自己的水平。大一的時候，我像高中那樣刻苦學(xué)習(xí)，從不逃課，上課認真聽講，課后認真復(fù)習(xí)，獨立完成作業(yè)。那個時候，大學(xué)對于我來說是一個全新的人生階段，我必須想辦法讓自己盡快適應(yīng)它。為了提高自己的能力，我積極參加各種各樣的活動和社團，諸如加入學(xué)生會、走訪敬老院、街頭義務(wù)賣報、紅歌合唱比賽及朗誦比賽等。 通過一年的努力，我的能力在很大程度上得到了提高。大二一年，對我來說是一個非常重要的轉(zhuǎn)折點。我嘗試著學(xué)習(xí)盡可能多的知識并將其運用到實踐中。第十八屆中國日報社21世紀杯全國英語演講比賽就是我大學(xué)生活中仍舊光彩奪目的一筆，我非常幸運地獲得了學(xué)校的特等獎。但其實名次遠遠不是最重要的，重要的是我從這個比賽中真的收獲了很多。很明顯，我的英語演講能力得到了一定程度的提升，從此不再懼怕在公眾面前發(fā)言，同時我也認識了一些在英語方面志同道合的朋友，能一起共享英語學(xué)習(xí)心得。其他諸如湖北省翻譯大賽等，我就不在此一一贅述。此外，社會志愿活動也值得一提。xx年7月，我有幸能夠作為一名志愿者赴新加坡參與第二屆xx國際傳統(tǒng)武術(shù)大賽。同樣也是我人生中一次有價值的體驗，我親身感受了一種不同的文化，開闊了眼界。在這里，我想告訴大家的是，大學(xué)是我們?nèi)松贸讨幸粋€綜合的平臺，我們應(yīng)該抓住每一個提升自己的機會，只要這樣才能得到成長。 大三這一年對于我的成長進步又是一次巨大的飛躍。有了前兩年打下的英語基礎(chǔ)，我參加了更多重要的學(xué)科競賽，獲得中央電視臺“希望之星”英語風(fēng)采大賽湖北省決賽一等獎、第五屆海峽兩岸口譯大賽一等獎、全國大學(xué)生英語競賽一等獎等。經(jīng)過這樣一系列的賽事，我對英語學(xué)習(xí)的道路更加有信心。接下來，我會給大家一些建議，以幫助大家為自己的大學(xué)時光增光添彩。 建議一：涉獵知識，充實自己 對于在座的大多數(shù)同學(xué)來說，大學(xué)四年將會是你們?nèi)松挟惓氋F的學(xué)習(xí)時光。有人曾經(jīng)作過這樣的比喻，大學(xué)就像一個染缸，這就意味著你的行為很容易會被他人左右。其實，如果你下定決心去學(xué)習(xí)，你會被知識和智慧環(huán)繞;但如果你失去了學(xué)習(xí)的欲望，你的大學(xué)四年可能會一無所得。 建議二：發(fā)揮潛力，培養(yǎng)興趣 大家都知道，相對高中來說，大學(xué)是一個綜合的平臺。我們不需要整天埋頭苦學(xué)，而是要力求全面發(fā)展，修身養(yǎng)性，找到自己的興趣所在。比如說，如果你熱愛跳舞，不妨加入舞蹈協(xié)會去鍛煉自己。大膽去展示吧!有樂趣的生活才會多姿多彩。 建議三：樂觀向上，充滿希望 可能大家聽說過，大學(xué)生活由自己主宰。有時候你會發(fā)現(xiàn)師長們不會告訴你每件事該如何處理，所以有時候?qū)ε龅降睦щy感到手足無措實屬正常。但是，請記住，生活充滿了跌宕起伏，困境僅僅只是生活的一部分。保持積極樂觀，你總會找到出路。 總之，大家應(yīng)該把自己的特點與上述建議相結(jié)合，并堅持下去，你會發(fā)現(xiàn)成功就在離你不遠的地方等著你。

win at the starting line next i’m going to give you some suggestions to help you manage your college life better. suggestion1: learn as much as possible. for most of us college can be an unforgettable period for us to learn something. some one once said that university is like a dye vat, which means that you may be easily influenced by others. if you want to learn something you will be embraced by knowledge and wisdom; and if you don’t have the desire to learn you will find you get nothing after 4 years’ college life. suggestion2: cultivate your potentials and interests. suggestion3: always be optimistic and hopeful.
